New Zealand triathletes Terenzo Bozzone and Gina Ferguson
have secured podium finishes in the United States and Europe
as they build for Ironman races later in the season.
Bozzone won the Olympic half distance race in Minnesota by
more than a minute at the weekend while Ferguson was third in
a half Ironman event in France.
Bozzone, who was joined by Americans Matthew Payne and
Jonathan Balabuck on the podium, was pleased with his work in
wintry conditions as he builds towards Ironman Germany on
July 5.
He heads to Cambridge, Maryland for the Eagleman 70.3 next
weekend and then has two weeks training in Oregon before
going to Germany.
Ferguson held on for third despite losing valuable time in
the transition between the swim and bike legs.
"I struggled to put on my arm warmers, this took about 30
seconds too long," she said.
Ferguson's bike was also knocked over and she lost her
nutrition gels.
Despite that setback she was second heading into the run but
lost another 30secs when she struggled to untie a bag of
energy snacks at the final transition post.
She had to settle for third, seven minutes behind Australian
Rebekah Keat and Alexandra Louison of France.
Ferguson now heads to South Korea for the long distance Asian
Championships next week.
