Netball: Cunningham to assist Broughton at Steel

Former Southern Sting defender Jo Cunningham has been appointed assistant coach of the Southern Steel team in the Trans-Tasman netball championship.

Since retiring as a player, Cunningham (nee Tapper) has coached Southern Sting's development team and guided the Southland under-19 team for two seasons, winning the Lois Muir Challenge competition last year.

"Learning - that's what I'm there for," Cunningham said. "It's such a step up from all other netball.

Cunningham is looking forward to supporting Robyn Broughton and the Steel.

"Initially I'm there to help Rob and implement what she wants implemented.

When it comes to things like developing tactics, two heads are often better than one." Broughton said Cunningham had southern netball at heart. "She's very much part of our traditions and culture," she said.
