Indonesia is cracking down on tourists who wear skimpy
clothes to the country's most popular attraction.
Visitors bearing too much skin at Central Java's famous
Borobudur Temple will be asked to cover-up under new rules
introduced this month.
Purnomo Siswo Prasetyo, who heads the company that manages
the temple site, said the new rules would create a more
positive atmosphere at the temple.
"In addition to being a tourist destination, the temple is
also a place of worship," Purnomo told the Jakarta
Globe newspaper.
"We keep getting complaints from locals upset about tourists
who wear skimpy clothing at Borobudur."
A Buddhist temple built around 1200 years ago, Borobudur is
Indonesia's single most visited tourist attraction.
UNESCO described the temple as "a masterpiece of human
creative genius" when it approved it for world heritage
listing.
