Pre-season favourite New Zealand have failed to make the NBL
finals despite notching the longest winning streak in this
season's competition.
The Breakers (15-13) finished their regular season program
with a 84-79 away victory over Cairns, their sixth straight
win.
However, victories on Saturday night to both Gold Coast
(16-12) and Wollongong (16-12) shut the Breakers out of the
top four and condemned them to finish fifth.
Gold Coast completed their campaign with a 91-73 away win
over Melbourne.
The Hawks guaranteed their top four finish with an 82-79
overtime away win over bottom of the table Adelaide.
Perth and Townsville both (16-11) will clash in Perth on
Sunday, with the winner finishing top of the table.
That result will also determined the final placings in the
top four heading in to the finals.
