The Hokitika Wildfoods Festival has made it into a list of
the world's top unmissable festivals by travel publishers
Frommers UK.
The festival, now in its 21st year, was included in the list
of 300 Unmissable Festivals and Events Around the World.
Organiser Mike Keenan said global recognition was "pretty
good".
"Over the years, the festival has shown there's a whole lot
more to wild food than the traditional delicacies like
whitebait and venison and we've become famous for delights
including huhu bugs, crouching grasshoppers, mountain oysters
and wasp larvae ice cream."
This year's festival, taking place next month, would feature
66 stalls, he said.
Mr Keenan said that an Australian food channel would cover
the event, while English baron Lord Francis Stafford would
judge its new foods section.
