Police have found the mother of a baby found dead in shed at
a suburban Christchurch boarding house.
Detective Inspector Tom Fitzgerald said tonight they were
speaking to the woman and she was "helping police with the
circumstances of the abandoning of the child".
Meanwhile the inquiry was continuing into the discovery of
the baby's body in the shed of a boarding house in suburban
Waltham yesterday morning.
Mr Fitzgerald earlier said the baby may have been dead for up
two years, saying it could have died anytime between three
months ago and up to 24 months ago. Police were seeking
information on the baby's gender, and how, when and where it
died.
Up to 12 people live at the boarding house, but they had not
seen a baby at there, Mr Fitzgerald said.
The body was taken away from the house by hearse, in a
washing basket.
