New Zealand men's tennis No1 Dan King-Turner won the singles
title at the Mildura $US15,000 Futures tournament in Mildura,
Victoria.
King-Turner, ranked at 254 in the world, beat Australian
Colin Ebelthite 6-3 6-7 (4-7) 6-4 in the final, which was
held over for rain with the New Zealander ahead a set and
scores close in the second set tiebreak.
The win should eventually take his ranking up by around 25 to
30 places.
This week, King-Turner will contest the $US15,000 Futures at
Berri, Victoria where he faces compatriot Marcus Daniell in
the first round.
Also playing the same event are New Zealanders Rubin and
Oliver Statham.
Meanwhile New Zealand women's No2 Marina Erakovic is playing
this week in the $US220,000 WTA event at Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia. She faces Taiwanese opponent Kai-Chen Chang who has
a ranking of 91 in the world in the first round on Tuesday.
