Your guide to Anzac Day services in the South this year.

 

 

CLUTHA DISTRICT RETURNED SERVICES ASSOCIATION INC. ANZAC DAY SERVICE
The public are invited to the Balclutha Anzac Day Dawn Service on Sat 25th April. Parade leaves the Balclutha War Memorial Hall at 7.15am. Service commences at the Cenotaph at 7.30am. In the event of inclement weather the service will be held in the War Memorial Hall. A special invitation is extended to all organisations to parade and attend the service. Wreaths will be laid at the Cenotaph.
Speaker: Mayor Bryan Cadogan.
The Clutha District R.S.A. invites all organisations and the public to its clubrooms for a warm drink after the service.

TAIERI MOUTH BEACH: Cemetery Gate service commences 9am.

Sunday April 26: The Anzac Connection, commemorative parade at 11.30am from the Clutha District RSA, followed by an aircraft flyover at Cross Recreation Centre 12.30pm and a varierty show tribute from 1-3pm. 

CENTRAL OTAGO

ALEXANDRA: The parade will assemble at 10.45am in Deel Street and will march to the War Memorial Monument where a service and wreath-laying ceremony will take place at 11am.

BANNOCKBURN: The service and parade is to commence at 9am at Bannockburn War Memorial.

CLYDE: The Alexandra-Clyde RSA will host a very Special ANZAC day dawn service at the Clyde Lookout at 7am on 25 April. The Service will include the opportunity to walk up the Lookout Track from the corner of Fache and Sunderland Streets while the recollections of veterans of the Gallipoli landings 100 years to the day play in the early dawn light. A lone piper will greet attendees at the Lookout.
Track walkers to assemble at Holloway Street Miner's Memorial at 6.30am, (Note: bring a torch with you for the walk, children must be accompanied by an adult) the rest of parade attendees to assemble at the Clyde Hotel at 6.40am to be bused up to Lookout Point (Clyde Dam). Service will begin at 7am. Attendees are advised that there will be no seating available at the Service; should seating be required, please bring your own.
The buses will return to Clyde School, where the parade will form and march to the cenotaph where a wreath-laying ceremony will take place.

CROMWELL: The service and parade is to commence at 10am at the Memorial Hall.

GLENORCHY: Service at the Memorial at 9.30am, but if wet meet in the hall.

LAKE HAWEA: Dawn Service, 7am Lake Hawea Dam, followed by community breakfast Lake Hawea Community Centre.

MANIOTOTO: The dawn service at Ranfurly War Memorial commences at 6.30am. Please bring a torch, followed by a family service commencing at the Ranfurly War Memorial at 10am.

MILLERS FLAT: The parade will assemble at the Millers Flat Hall at 8.45am and will march to the Millers Flat War Memorial, where the service will commence at 9am. If the weather is wet the service will be held at the Millers Flat Hall.

OMAKAU: The parade will assemble at the Omakau Commercial Hotel at 9.45am and will march to the Omakau Hall, where a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at 10am.

QUEENSTOWN: Dawn Service at 6.45am at the Memorial Gates at the waterfront. At 9.15am gather at Memorial Gates for the march, which begins at 9.30am and goes to the Memorial Hall for the 10am Service.

ROXBURGH: The parade will assemble at the Roxburgh Town Hall at 6.45am and will march to the King George Memorial Park Playground, Scotland Street, Roxburgh. The service will commence at 7am. (Note bring a torch with you to the service).

WANAKA: Dawn Service 7am Wanaka Lakefront. Civic Service 9.30am Lake Wanaka Centre. Wreath-laying 10.45am Wanaka Memorial.

NORTH OTAGO

OAMARU Dawn Service will be held at the World War One Memorial at 6.30am Wreaths will be laid at the Oamaru Services Cemetery at 9.00am, followed by wreath-laying at the Turakina Memorial, Lookout Point Parade and Garden of Memories Service. Start at 10.30am at the South African War Memorial, from there to the World War One Memorial, then to the Garden of Memories for the 11am Service. If wet, a service will be held in the RSA Hall, Itchen Street, Oamaru

PALMERSTON: 8.45am Palmerston Memorial Gates Wreath-laying, 9.00am Anzac Service DG Murray Hall, Palmerston. Following service at the DG Murray Hall, wreath laying at the South African Memorial, Ronaldsay Street, Palmerston

DUNBACK: 11.30am Service & wreath laying at the Memorial, Main Road, Dunback, followed by wreath-laying at the Memorial Stone in the Dunback Domain.

WAIKOUAITI: Parade and service at Clubrooms, Pratt Street, Waikouaiti at 10.30am.

EASTERN SOUTHLAND 

GORE: DAWN PARADE SERVICE 6.30am Will be held at the cenotaph following the parade of ex-service personnel, Service Groups, Scouts, Guides etc., which is to assemble on the corner of Mersey and Main Streets at 6.30am and be led by the Gore Pipe Band and official wreath bearers. Wreaths may be placed at this Service. Please register your names with the RSA before the day. Dress: Mufti and medals. RSA Members, participants, and friends are welcome back to the RSA Clubrooms at the conclusion of the Parade. The Gore RSA Bistro will be open for a $15 buffet breakfast from 8.00am to 10.00am and again in the evening from 5.30pm. A light lunch from the Bistro will also be available from 12noon-2pm. There will be musical entertainment at the clubrooms throughout the day. Live video feed from the cenotaph to the RSA clubrooms. Courtesy coach will be available all day. Pickups for the service restricted to returned servicemen, their wives or widows. Please call the RSA to arrange a pick-up. A reserved table has been set aside at the clubrooms for Returned Soldiers. BALFOUR: 10.00am The parade departs from the Sports Ground gates at 9.45am for a Service at the Balfour Public Hall at 10.00am, followed by the opening and wreath-laying at the new War Memorial. DUNROBIN: 11.45am (to follow on after the Heriot service)

EDENDALE: 9.00am The public is invited to the Edendale Anzac Day Service at the war memorial at 9.00am. Parade to assemble at the baths at 8.45am.

SEAWARD DOWNS: Wreath-laying at 11.00am. Cup of tea to follow.

HERIOT: 10.00am Assemble at the Heriot Community Centre at 10.00am. The flag-raising ceremony is at the completion of the service. Everyone is welcome for refreshments at the community Centre at the completion of the Service. Chairman: Ian Alexander Guest Speaker: Harriet Keown

LUMSDEN: 7.00am The Service will be held at the monument at 7.00am. Assemble at the Senior Citizens Hall at 6.45am. Cup of Tea/Coffee at the Senior Citizens Hall at the conclusion of the Service.

MATAURA: 7.00am Assemble at the Alliance Butcher shop in Bridge St at 6.45am. Parade Marshal: Owen Patterson Minister: Rev Tau Ben Unu Special address at the RSA clubrooms following the Service along with a cup of coffee and refreshments

MOSSBURN: 7.00am A Service will be held at the Senior Citizens Rooms at 7.00am. Members of the Public are asked to assemble at the Senior Citizens Rooms from 6.45am. Refreshments to follow Service, everyone welcome.

PUKERAU: 9.30am A Service will be held at the Memorial Gates at 9.30am. (Community Centre if wet). There will be a morning tea at the Community Centre following the Service. Ladies a plate please.
RIVERSDALE: 10.00am The Service will commence in the Community Centre at 10.00am. Following the Service the parade will march to the Cenotaph for the wreath-laying. TE ANAU: 11.00am Anzac Day Service will be held at 11.00am at the Fiordland Travel Corner. Assemble at Paper Plus at 10.45am. WAIKAKA: 10.00am The Waikaka Anzac Committee invites members and the general public to participate in their Anzac Day Service available to be held at the Waikaka Centennial Hall at 10.00am. The scout flag-raising ceremony will begin at 9.55am. Following the service march to the war memorial for wreath-laying. WAIKAKA VALLEY, MERINO DOWNS & WAIKOKOI. Sunday 26th April at 10am. Held in the Waikoikoi Church. Relatives and district residents will speak on each of the 13 who died in WWI. Pot-luck finger lunch to follow. All welcome

WAIMUMU/TE TIPUA: 10.00am An Anzac Service will be held at the Waimumu-Te Tipua Hall at 10.00am. At the conclusion morning tea will be served in the hall. All welcome.

WENDONSIDE: 12noon A Special Anzac Service will be held at the Wendonside Memorial at 12 noon Chairman: Lindsay Wright

WINTON: 7.00am The Service will be held at the Anzac Oval at 7.00am. Wreath-bearers are asked to report to the band rotunda at 6.55am. Members of the RSA invite all present to join them for a cup of tea or coffee in the Memorial Hall after the service.

WYNDHAM: 8.00am Assemble at the Town Square at 7.45am. Parade will commence at 8.00am to a wreath laying ceremony at the War Memorial. Following the ceremony morning tea and refreshments will be held at the Evangelical Church.

SOUTHLAND 

AWARUA RSA/2ND NZEF: 9.45am 2nd NZEF Carpark, Don Street, Invercargill

BALFOUR: 9.50am Parade leaves from the sports ground gates. The service is at 10am at the hall, followed by a wreath-laying.

BLUFF: 6.50am Assemble at Memorial Grove. 7am Service starts. 10.45am March to the cenotaph, meet at the rear of the Bluff Memorial RSA.

COLAC BAY: 8.45am Service at the war memorial.

DIPTON: 10am Dipton Memorial Hall.

DRUMMOND: 8.15am Service at the war memorial (if wet, Drummond Bowling Club). Cup of tea to follow. All welcome. Speaker: Dr Aaron Fox. Minister: Mr Peter Noble.

EDENDALE: 9am Service at the war memorial.

GARSTON: 1.30pm at Garston School on Thursday, April 23.

GORGE ROAD: 9am Service at the war memorial

INVERCARGILL: 7am Service at the cenotaph. Following the service coffee and sandwiches, with official speeches, at the Invercargill Workingmens Club. Invercargill Workingmens Club open for lunch 11.30am to 1.30pm. Shindig will entertain from 1pm and Contraband from 7pm.

INVERCARGILL EASTERN CEMETERY: 9.30am Girl Guide service.

LORNEVILLE RSA: 10am Service at Makarewa Country Club. Wreath-laying following the service at Makarewa School. Memorial Boards will be rededicated. Guest Speaker: Mr Graeme Appleby. Minister: Mr Peter Noble. Morning tea to follow at the Wallacetown Fire Brigade.

LUMSDEN: 7am Service at the Lumsden Memorial Hall.

MOSSBURN: 6.45am Gather at the Senior Citizens Rooms. The procession will march to the memorial gates for the dawn service at 7am.

OHAI-NIGHTCAPS: 10am The service begins at the Nightcaps Town Hall, followed by laying of wreaths at the memorial in Dr Woods Memorial Park.

ORAWIA: 7am Dawn service and parade at the Orawia cenotaph.

OREPUKI: 9am Service at the memorial gates on Bolton Street.

OTAUTAU: 7am Service at war memorial.

PINE BUSH: 9.30am A wreath-laying will be held at the new memorial on the corner of Oliver Road.

RIVERSDALE: 10am Service begins at the community centre, followed by a march to the cenotaph.

RIVERTON: 7am Dawn service parade leaves from the RSA at 7am and goes to the Troopers Memorial. 10.15am A second parade leaves from the RSA and will go to the Troopers Memorial as well as the memorial across the bridge.

ROWENA JACKSON REST HOME: 10.30am Service for residents and the public.

RYAL BUSH: 11.30am The "Blood of Heroes: The Seed of Freedom." commemoration and service will be held at the war memorial.

SEAWARD DOWNS: 11am Service at the war memorial.

STEWART ISLAND: 7am Parade at the waterfront.

TE ANAU: 7am Service at Te Anau Club. 10.40am Assemble at Paper Plus for kapa haka and parade to the cenotaph. The service will begin at 11am.

THORNBURY: 8.45am The parade leaves the fire station and goes to the WWI and WWII memorials before returning to the fire station.

TOKANUI: 9.30am Service at the Tokanui Memorial Hall.

TUATAPERE: 7am Dawn service and parade at the Orawia cenotaph. 10am Service and parade at the Tuatapere RSA Memorial Hall.

TUTURAU: 11am Service at the war memorial.

WAIKAIA: 10am Service at the community centre, followed by a parade to the cenotaph.

WAIMAHAKA: 10am Service at the war memorial.

WENDONSIDE: 12noon Service at the war memorial.

WINTON: 7am Service at Anzac Oval. If you want to register a wreath please be there by 6.45am.
