The creations of two Otago Polytechnic fashion design students have been recognised by clothing chain Glassons.

Third-year Otago Polytechnic students Sophie Ball and Kenya Quin submitted their designs to Glassons to receive feedback as part of a project between the fashion chain and the polytechnic.

Miss Quin earned a one-month internship with Glassons for her collection ''Distressed Perception'', which explored the ideas of mental illness within the fashion industry.

''We presented our ideas - and that was exciting because they were excited - and it was just fun to meet them, because they are just so big in the industry as well,'' Miss Quin said.

Otago Polytechnic fashion principal lecturer Margo Barton said the collaboration came about after Glassons contacted her wanting to support emerging talent.

''Collaborating on projects like this is the best way to advance fashion education and [the] industry together,'' she said.

Miss Ball's cartoon-inspired collection ''IYamWhatIYam'' would give her the chance to take over Glassons' 10,000-follower Snapchat account: ''It'll just be me introducing myself, my designs, what I'm about.''

Miss Quin said she would take up the internship after her studies were completed at the end of the year, working with the Glassons design team in Auckland.

''It's going to be awesome,'' she said.

''It's a really good learning experience being in a workroom that's already so successful, learning how they work and seeing the whole process.''
