Test of food skills

The skills of 150 Otago Polytechnic students will be tested at a Food Design Institute conference to be held at the institution on June 29.

Polytechnic students from a range of disciplines including design, journalism, culinary arts and photography will undertake work in the lead-up to and during the three-day conference.

Conference convener Richard Mitchell said involving students in the organisation of the conference provided them with "real-world skills''.

Product and interior design students began working on a set for the conference at the start of the year and food design students had been busy creating prototypes for all the catering at the event, he said.

About 150 people are expected to attend the conference, including New Zealand chef Al Brown and chef Michael Elegbede, from Nigeria.
