Reports of peeping tom in campus area

People living in the University of Otago campus area are being urged to be vigilant after reports a man has been watching females change in their flats.

Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said police had received reports from female students of a man peeping through their windows during the late evening.

The incidents were disturbing for the victims, and police were appealing for any information or description of the man.

Female students would be well advised to pull their curtains or blinds before changing, he said.

• An 18-year-old took his father's car for an early morning joyride yesterday, Snr Sgt Aitken said.

A wheel came off the vehicle in Hillside Rd about 3am and the man then drove 7km around the city, Snr Sgt Aitken said.

The man stopped near the Octagon and did a "runner" before being caught by police.

He has been charged with dangerous driving and drink-driving.

• A man alleged to have stolen items from cars parked in Dunedin reserves will appear in court tomorrow.

Snr Sgt Aitken said the 46-year-old man was arrested by Dunedin CIB on Tuesday and charged with theft.
