A Dunedin-based film-maker is one of five in New Zealand
who will have their works broadcast on the BBC's Knowledge
channel this year.
University of Otago science communication master's student
Claire Clements has produced a film, A Bach Somewhere,
which was selected for the channel because it depicted a
quintessential Kiwi experience.
Her short-form documentary tells the story of a New Zealand
crib through the eyes of Don, a permanent bach dweller, who
is the epitome of what it means to live in, and love New
Zealand.
The young Australian has a background in conservation and
environmental tourism, and has worked on conservation
projects in China and Australia.
She has also filmed wildlife in Southeast Asia, China,
Australia and New Zealand.
To celebrate its February 2011 launch, BBC Knowledge New
Zealand sought five true stories which reflected the essence
of the channel - intelligent, informative, innovative and
sometimes irreverent.
New Zealand factual producers under the age of 30 were
invited to submit concepts for five short-form grants of
$5000 each.
The films will have their television premieres on BBC
Knowledge New Zealand later this year, with a further
screening in Australia to follow.
