University of Otago senior lecturer Dr Clinton Golding
has been named as one of Australia's top teachers.
Dr Golding, who previously worked at Melbourne University, is
one of 22 leading teachers to gain an Award for Teaching
Excellence in the 2011 Australian Awards for University
Teaching.
Ten innovative student learning programmes are also
recognised in the annual awards, which will be presented at a
function at the Sydney Opera House on August 16.
Dr Golding has been based at the Otago University Higher
Education Development Centre (HEDC) since May, having
previously been a senior lecturer at the Melbourne University
Graduate School of Education (2004-10).
The award, which includes $A25,000 to support his own
academic development, was based on his work at Melbourne.
"It's really lovely for your peers to say 'You're a great
teacher'," Dr Golding said in an interview.
To receive the award was a "massive privilege".
