Police have praised the occupants of a student flat and
Campus Watch after they apprehended an alleged burglar
yesterday morning.
Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said police were called to a
burglary in Clyde St at 10.30pm, but were unable to find the
offender.
However at 1am, the alleged burglar entered a Hyde St
property and was chased by the male occupants, he said.
The man was caught on campus by the flatmates in association
with the University of Otago Campus Watch, who held him until
police arrived.
The 24-year-old Christchurch man was found with a range of
items - including laptops, clothes, wallets and cash - from
four campus properties.
Two grey modems which could not be found are believed to be
somewhere in the campus area.
Snr Sgt Aitken said the students and Campus Watch did
"fantastic work" apprehending the man, who is to appear in
the Dunedin District Court today on burglary charges.
