Speed flatting draws 45

About 45 University of Otago students turned up to a speed flatting session at University College on campus yesterday.

Now in its fourth year, the Orientation event aims to match prospective flatmates together in a rapid-fire session in which they have about one minute to find out if they are suited.

Otago University Students' Association student support centre manager Matt Tucker said students from five flats attended to find flatmates, but most of those there were looking for a flat, he said.

Most of those at yesterday's session were male, but it tended to vary by session, he said.

Another session will be held tomorrow.

''I just think it's a great way for students to meet each other in a non-confrontational [setting]. You don't have to have someone come to your flat.''
