Students 'struggling' to find placements

The latest figures from Student Job Search (SJS) show students are ''struggling'' to find work, Otago University Students' Association president Francisco Hernandez says.

The number of SJS job placements in Otago last month was down by 31.55% on the amount placed in June last year.

''The sad fact is students are still struggling to find work in Dunedin and across Otago.

We've been pushing out the Student Job Search message and we continue to have students signing up. Now we just need the jobs to be there,'' he said.

The lack of jobs, as well as the Government's cuts to allowances, was making life difficult for some students.

''It's hard when we're being told by the Government to find extra work as they cut funding for students, but where are the jobs?''

In the year to the end of June there were 6.22% fewer job placements than in the corresponding period last year.
