Science summer camp set to start

More than 230 senior secondary science pupils from throughout New Zealand will take part in the University of Otago's 25th hands-on science summer camp, which starts tomorrow.

Organisers said the mix of hands-on science and fun social activities had long proved successful, offering positive learning opportunities for pupils from remote country areas, as well as from cities.

A strong supporter of the annual school, Emeritus Prof John Tagg, will give a public lecture at the university's St David lecture theatre at 7.30pm on Monday.

As part of the 25th anniversary celebrations, Prof Jim Metson, of Auckland University, will be present on Friday when pupils report back on their research projects.
