The Dunedin International Food Festival on Saturday had more stalls serving exotic fare than ever before.

Otago University Students' Association event co ordinator Jerome Cousins said more than 3000 people attended the festival in the University of Otago union courtyard on Saturday night.

The cold weather meant ''slightly fewer'' people attended this year than last year.

However, the 27 stalls at the festival made it the biggest in the event's history.

The 17 stalls run by members of international students' associations were mostly from Asia Pacific countries including the Philippines, Malaysia, Taiwan and Thailand, he said.

The remaining stalls were run by Dunedin food businesses.

The mango lassis prepared by the Indian Students' Association were a standout, Mr Cousins said.

''Knowing you can't have it for another six months makes it taste even better.''

The festival was the final event for reorientation week. Mr Cousins said the week went ''without issue'' and those attending events, including a sold out concert by Australian electronic duo Hermitude on Thursday, were ''well behaved''.
