Memorial award for Otago botanist

University of Otago botany researcher Dr Janice Lord is ''absolutely delighted'' to have been named as the Royal Society of New Zealand's latest Leonard Cockayne Memorial Lecturer.

Dr Lord, a senior lecturer in botany, received this honour for her work on the floral biology in New Zealand alpine and subantarctic zones.

She will give a lecture about her plant research at the Presbyterian Community Church Centre in Wanaka on August 28 at 6pm, and in Dunedin on September 3, at 5.30pm at the Hutton Theatre.

The award, made every three years, commemorates Dr Leonard Cockayne, who is regarded as New Zealand's greatest botanist and a founder of modern science in this country.
