Celebrating our 20th anniversary this year, City Heights is proud to be the longest running private centre in Dunedin still under the original ownership. We have grown to three buildings on three sections in upper York Place overlooking the city, harbour and sea with the beautiful Town Belt behind us. With nature walks in our "back yard" we are also in easy reach of the Dunedin Library, Fortune Theatre, Art Gallery and Early Settlers' Museum. A "crocodile" of buggies can often be seen as the teachers take the babies out and about. Our City Heights van helps with longer trips to the DGC Gym and Otago Museum.
With five classes catering to four age groups, the children all follow developmentally appropriate individual and group learning programmes. Our 3 and 4 year olds follow the Montessori curriculum while younger children are introduced to it gradually. Emphasis is placed on respect for ourselves, the teachers and the environment - choosing an activity, doing it and putting it away afterwards. The children love the ordered classroom, with teachers introducing reading, writing and sums in Montessori classes, following the child's interest.
City Heights' children get off to a great start as the international team of Montessori and early childhood qualified teachers run an excellent learning programme which is enjoyed by Children and adults alike.
A recent ERO report praises City Heights' teachers for using the cultural diversity of the centre's community to enrich the children's understanding of other people, places and cultures. So check the City Heights' website to enrol and gain more information or send us an email.
