Advance voting starts

Voters who will not be in their electorate on November 8 have the chance to place an ordinary advance vote from today.

Dunedin North returning officer Cyril Gilfedder said university students who were leaving Dunedin before election day would benefit by placing an advance vote as it would mean their votes would be counted on election night.

Advance voting will be held in the ISB Link of the University of Otago, at the Salvation Army Hall in South Dunedin, at the Mosgiel Abilities Resource Centre, in Green St, and the electorate office, at 86 Andersons Bay Rd.

A travelling "roadshow" will take advance voting to Portobello, Brighton and Middlemarch.

In Sydney, a haka is being performed below the Australian Electoral Commission offices at Haymarket this morning to mark the opening of overseas polls and to encourage the 81,000 Sydney-based New Zealanders to vote.
