State of the art map on the way

A new art map will be supported by the Dunedin City Council to promote the local arts community.

It will supersede a DCC-funded map which was to be launched today but was withdrawn after criticism it did not include all the galleries and art businesses in the city.

The council held a meeting with representatives of 10 galleries at the Dunedin City Council offices on Monday.

"The meeting went really well and we agreed to work on a new version which is inclusive of all galleries," DCC community arts adviser Cara Paterson said yesterday.

"The original map was a good intention, but this one will feature all the galleries, arts, fashion and design businesses. It will be quite a shift from the other one."

The map would be funded through businesses paying a fee or subscription for inclusion, Ms Paterson said.

"We've had a lot of interest about it, from art galleries from Green Island to Port Chalmers."

The new map was likely to take up to three months to design and produce, she said.
