The Russian National Ballet Theatre will perform for the first time in Dunedin this month. Rebecca Fox asked dancer Elisaveta (Lisa) Igorevna Lobacheva what her life as a dancer is like.

Q When did you start dancing?

A I started dancing at 10 years old at Moscow Ballet Academy.

Q What did you like about ballet?

A I love so much music and endless body movements.

Q What companies have you danced with?

A Before joining the Russian National Ballet Theatre, I was working at Musical Theatre of Sats. Natalia Sats was a very famous artist and she has created a musical theatre under her name. And that is where I started my career.

Q Why join the national ballet theatre?

A I join RNBT because I like very much its repertoire and the high level of company.

Q What is your favourite role?

A My favourite role is Sleeping Beauty, because I like the story.

Q What is your role in Swan Lake?

A I have danced over three years Swan Lake in the principal role.

Q What is most challenging about being a dancer?

A The hardest aspect of being a dancer is hours and hours of training, but we love it.

Q Have you had any serious injuries?

A I had some little injuries, but lucky me, not big ones.

Q How many pointe shoes do you go through?

A I use one pair per performance. On average 40-50 point shoes during the tour.

Q How do you juggle this life with family?

A For the moment I am not married and my family is ballet.

Q What do you do in your free time?

A We don't have much free time, but when we do, then we just relaxing and recovering for the next show. I like to listen to classical music.

Q Have you been to New Zealand before?

A No, I am so much looking forward to see it.
