"All My Friends Have Magical Powers" is the intriguing title of a young graffiti artist's debut exhibition, which opened in Dunedin this week.

Harley Jones (18) says all the works are based on, "or somehow reference", his friends.

He is one of a new generation of innovative artists from Dunedin, a place where the art scene, as he describes it, "has a lot more than meets the eye".

The exhibit consists of four large-scale painting installations, with four smaller drawings, combining "in your face" graffiti with more subtle fine art.

Jones' work is an attempt to bridge the gap between the two.

"All My Friends Have Magical Powers" opens tomorrow at 9 Anzac Ave, Dunedin, and runs until February 5.
