In NZ Wild Life, New Zealand biologists Steve Trewick and Mary Morgan-Richards have set out to introduce readers to the country's lesser-known natural history, where the most diversity often lies.

A brief introduction of New Zealand's evolution is followed by Maori-titled chapters (takahe, rata, weta, ngarara, ro, ponga, kaka, kahikatea, koura, harakeke) on various species or groups of species, incorporating information about their evolution, classification, biodiversity and biological interactions.

The vast flora detailed ranges from the mighty kahikatea to minute mosses, liverworts and lichens. Fauna ranges from weka, coots and crakes; to geckos, skinks and tuatara; to weta, stick insects and mayflies; snails, slugs and worms; to freshwater crayfish, native fish and eels.

Stunning close-up photographs by Trewick and a range of other photographers, including ODT illustrations editor Stephen Jaquiery, plus informative diagrams and maps showing diversity and distribution, complete this user-friendly, informative guide.
