In a previous review of another of David Levithan's books I wrote his ''prose neared poetry at times''.

The Realm of Possibility is a novel written in free verse, its economy with words lending all the more poignancy to the feelings of his characters as they move through high school.

It's a bold move to write in this fashion, but Levithan carries it off with style.

In a world awash with the ''noise'' of TV and the internet's social media, Levithan's sparse prose quietly makes its point, leaving the reader pierced to the heart at times. It is a rare and precious talent.

Just one character readers will meet is a young outsider white boy who has built a refuge for himself in harsh music, who attends a black gospel church meeting because a girl in his class is the only one who is kind to him. Pure reading pleasure.
