Games for slower and faster-paced gamers

Hayden Meikle takes a quick look at two wildly different games that might appeal on these cold winter nights.

For slower-paced gamers

Farming Simulator 2015

For: PS4, Xbox One
From: Giants Software

The story: This is the fifth release in the series, in case you didn't realise. And it is what it says it is - a simulation of farming. Work the fields, grow the crops, drive the tractors etc etc.

Best bits: There is something really soothing - almost cathartic - about the steady rhythm of the tractor work, which is really the major part of the game. There is almost unlimited freedom to plant whatever crops you like, and dozens of vehicles to buy and collect. And the introduction of forestry adds a bit of variety.

Worst bits: It requires a LOT of repetitive gameplay to get anywhere. Some of the vehicles are very cumbersome. The graphics look dated.

To play if: You need to seriously wind down after a hard-out session on Battlefield Hardline.

For faster-paced gamers

Ultra Street Fighter IV

For: PS4
From: Capcom

The story: An updated version of the classic one-on-one fighting game that stole so many of our 20c pieces in the 1990s.

Best bits: Well, it's Street Fighter. Sometimes you just need to bash a few buttons and smash an opponent into the dust. All characters, costumes, modes and settings from previous games are included. Brilliant fun against a human opponent.

Worst bits: The odd glitch can creep into the action. Some of the best moves are difficult to perform. Gameplay can get stale after a while.

To play if: You need something with a tad more action than Farming Simulator.
