E3 is like a gamer's Christmas. A day full of new exciting announcements, new toys to play with and more of what to look forward to from games coming out later this year. Simon Bishop hands out his awards.

BEST CONFERENCE
Winner: Bethesda.

Bethesda had a conference for the first time in its history, and it knocked it out of the park.

No gimmicks, no messing about, just showing off their forthcoming games in depth AND using actual gameplay, not just trailers. Bravo.

Runner up: Sony.

BIGGEST SURPRISE
Winner: Sony announcing Last Guardian/Final Fantasy 7 remake.

The fanboys all cried tears of joy when Sony began its press conference with these big hitters.

Personally, I am not fussed either way, but there are many who are!

Runner up: Microsoft announcing backwards compatibility for the Xbox One.

THE CURE FOR INSOMNIA AWARD FOR DULLEST CONFERENCE
Winner:
EA.

Last year's EA conference sent me to sleep and so did this one.

Whether it was Pele talking at (great) length on stage for FIFA 16 (for reasons unknown other than EA getting the most out of paying him) to uninspired sports presentations, EA made me wonder why I had got up so early to watch it.

Runner up: Ubisoft.

CRINGE FACTOR AWARD
Winner: The Hoop Gawd.

The world was introduced to NBA Live community manager ''The Hoop Gawd'', and I wish it wasn't.

If you want to see the awkwardness, check it out on YouTube.

Runner up: Any fan interviewed by presenters standing in line waiting for the shows.

SPONTANEOUS CONTENT DROP AWARD
Winner: Bethesda releasing Fallout Shelter on iOS.

A new phenomenon at E3 is where publishers mention something and then go ''and it's available ... NOW!'' to rapturous applause. I'm all for it. This year, Bethesda brought the house down with its charming Fallout themed iOS app.

Runner up: Microsoft announces Gears of War Ultimate Edition beta.

WOW FACTOR AWARD
Winner: Microsoft HoloLens Minecraft demonstration.

I am a vocal proponent of VR headsets.

I fail to see the appeal.

Well that was until Microsoft showed off its HoloLens in a presentation that was equal parts amazing and awesome.

Not sure it's enough to turn me into a VR fanatic but it definitely pleasantly surprised me.

Runner up: The entire Bethesda conference.

GAME OF SHOW
Winner: Fallout 4.

This year there was no doubt what the best game showed off at E3 was.

It came on Monday afternoon our time and it brought the house down.

Bethesda showed off Fallout 4 extensively, announced it's coming this year, and announced companion apps/wearable pip-boys, crushing anything else on offer at the show.

It looks like a sure-fire hit.

Runner up: Uncharted 4.
