Kylie Minogue
Kylie Minogue has quit singing to focus on acting,
reports say.
The 44-year-old performer decided to go on an indefinite
hiatus from music just days after celebrating 25 years in the
business, a Sunday Mirror report says.
She made the decision after sacking her long-term manager
Terry Blamey, who was instrumental in launching her music
career when she was just 19, the report said.
It blamed tensions between Blamey and Minogue's father for
the bust up.
"Kylie's decision to stop recording for the time being and
part company with Terry has come as a massive shock," a
source close to the singer reportedly told the UK paper.
"Ever since she broke into the charts in the 80s Terry has
been the man behind the scenes. But now Kylie is saying she
wants to pull back from the pressures that come with a music
career.
"She says she's determined to devote more time both to
herself and to her career as an actress."
Minogue's decreased status at her new label Universal was
also a factor in her decision to leave music, the paper said.
Her former label Parlophone has been sold to the corporation
and Minogue was not getting the same level of attention among
its extensive roster of performers, it said.
Minogue recently returned to acting with an appearance in the
surreal French film Holy Motors.
She got her start in the entertainment industry with a part
on the Australian soap Neighbours in 1986.
