A talented Kiwi dance group got up-close and personal as Jennifer Lopez opened the American Music Awards dancing to a mash-up of this year's chart-topping hits.

The longtime popstar was clad in a skin-tight body-suit and danced to hits including Taylor Swift's 'Bad Blood', Nicki Minaj's 'Anaconda' and Drake's 'Hotline Bling' - famous for it's unusual dance moves.

Jo Lo's dance was choreographed by Auckland hip-hop dancer Parris Goebel and five women from from world hip-hop dance champions ReQuest New Zealand had the opportunity to dance alongside the international popstar.

After the performance, the 23-year-old Kiwi choreographer wrote on Facebook "Such a privilege to work on JL's opening number for the AMA's and to have 5 of my girls & Lance perform was truly a blessing...".

"She gave me my first big break in the industry and to meet up 3 years later to put this together. So grateful for the opportunity to choreograph this. All my love to the my team."

Dancer Lance Savali described the show as "dope".

"I look a tad angry in this photo haha but hey atleast @jlo still looks good! Lol was another dream come true for me to dance for this woman! Greatful and blessed for every moment."
