The 2009 winner of the Michael Hill International Violin Competition will perform at the sold-out Brunch at The Hills, and then join a world-class New Zealand pianist for a recital at the Queenstown Memorial Hall, both on Sunday.

Czech Republic violinist Josef Spacek (23) is set to arrive for the performances during the Queenstown Winter Festival from his studies with Israeli-American violin virtuoso, conductor, and master-instructor Itzhak Perlman, at the Juilliard School in New York.

Spacek has gained widespread international acclaim since winning several national and international competitions.

He has performed as a soloist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Kansas City Symphony, Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and Prague Philharmonia, among others.

Spacek will play solo for the 55 guests at the clubhouse of entrepreneur and arts supporter Michael Hill's exclusive golf course, near Arrowtown.

He will then join celebrated concert pianist and chamber musician Michael Houstoun at the memorial hall. They are set to perform Mozart's Violin Sonata No 22, Beethoven's Violin Sonata No 7, Prokofiev's Violin Sonata No 1 and Smetana's From My Homeland.

• Doors open at 4.30pm and the show starts at 5pm. Adult tickets cost $39, and tickets for children under 18 cost $10. Tickets are available from i-Site Visitor Centre Queenstown and Ticketdirect.
