Music is a big part of Orientation Week. Photo by Peter

Apart from Valentine's Day on Monday, it's looking like a
quiet week on Dunedin's entertainment calendar - a period of
calm before the storm of Orientation 2011.
And what better Valentine's Day gift than a ticket to
Orientation? O'11 tickets go on sale on Monday.
The OUSA events team has again been hard at work mixing up a
collection of musical, comedic and other talent from our fine
land and elsewhere.
This year they're promoting "a scoop of fun for all with
everything from hypnosis to Bollywood-infused hip-hop, d-low
rockers to electro-pop shockers, Australians, Kiwis and even
an American making their presence known to show you what
Otago life has to offer".
The shows open with the traditional comedy night on Monday
February 21, which features Steve Wrigley, Jeremy Elwood and
Justine Smith at the college of education auditorium.
The Toga Party, featuring future DJ competition winner DJ
Dhalsim and 50 Cal, begins at 8pm in the Union Hall, and
isn't open to the public.
Swaren "DJ Dhalsim" Veygal is a classically trained pianist,
double bassist and ethnopercussionist, qualified audio
engineer and producer, according to his website. He creates a
big-room blend of high energy electro house etc etc, or so he
says.
Wednesday February 23 sees the Converse Indie Party with
Aucklanders Kids Of 88, Zowie, Computers Want Me Dead, and
local support from Mr Biscuits, at the Union Hall from 9pm.
This one is open to the public.
On Thursday February 24 stage hypnotist Guy Carter returns to
help willing participants make complete fools of themselves
in front of a live audience. That's at the college of
education auditorium.
Orientation takes on a sporting bent on the Friday with the
Highlanders taking on the Waikato Chiefs at Carisbrook. Then
back at the Union Hall at 9pm, New Zealand reggae exponents
Kora play with support from Koile and Left or Right.
Orientation 2011 wraps up on Saturday February 26 with a
night full of entertainment. Minuit, Ladi6, DJ Rekha from the
US, and Australian acts Metals, Kween G, and Bad Ezzy at the
Dunedin Town Hall from 9pm.
