Wellington comedy duo Flight of the Conchords have ditched the t-shirts in favour of tuxedos for the glitzy Emmy awards.

There was speculation the duo - Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie - would wear their signature scruffy attire to the awards show at the 7100-seat Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

But that rumour was put to rest when they arrived on the red carpet.

Clement and McKenzie have been nominated for 'outstanding writing in a comedy series' along with the show's British director James Bobin, and twice in the 'outstanding original music and lyrics' category for the songs The Most Beautiful Girl (in the Room) and Inner City Pressure.
