CD Reviews: My Chemical Romance

With the eyeliner running down the faces of their fans upon news of their demise, New Jersey goth-poppers My Chemical Romance release their first greatest hits collection.

The retrospective confirms that at worst, they were a maudlin mess, while at their best the likes of Welcome to the Black Parade and I'm Not Okay (I Promise) are an electrifying amalgam of Queen, Meat Loaf and Van Halen, buoyed by a wry mix of gallows humour, camp glam, and operatic bombast.

Those mourning the loss will find solace in the accompanying demos and the unreleased opener Fake Your Death.
