CD Reviews: David Gray

The 10th studio album from David Gray documents a strong return to form for the English singer-songwriter, who first came to attention with 1998 effort White Ladder.

The homespun, angular percussion is long-gone, yet the vocal delivery that piqued so much interest remains as Gray spits and soars his way through 11 songs.

Though some tracks have been inspired by others (the words of Belgian poet Herman de Coninck begin Gulls), it is clear Gray has, for the most part, dug deep within and found a rich vein.

As he comes up for air, he tells stories both sombre and celebratory.
