CD Reviews: Bleachers

The debut album from fun. guitarist Jack Antonoff's solo project Bleachers, Strange Desire pays homage to his love for electronic pop, in particular the bombastic and joyous party vibe of Erasure and the slightly darker moods of Depeche Mode.

Although it's clear Antonoff is aiming straight for the heart of mainstream via a selection of infectious melodies (Wild Heart, Like A River Runs), the album's fat production adds just enough grit to the synthesised blips and beeps (Rollercoaster) to suggest this New Jersey-raised guitarist still enjoys letting loose in a garage or, more likely these days, a Manhattan loft.
