Two Otago high school bands - one from Wanaka, one from Dunedin - have made it through to the Smokefree Rockquest last 30.
Oddity, from Mt Aspiring College, and Chandeliers, from Otago Boys' High School have made the cut to be among the competition's top 20 bands.
The top 30 is rounded out by a separate solo artist category.
The bands now await the results of the next stage, which has judges selecting their top six bands and top three solo performers to compete live in the finals in Auckland in September.
These results will be announced on Friday.
