CD Reviews: Prince and 3rd Eye Girl

If Art Official Age is a fresh statement of Prince's multifaceted talent, Plectrumelectrum is the four-on-the-floor, hard-rocking funk album that captures something of the power of his recent touring performances.

Along with bandmates Donna Grantis (guitar), Hannah Ford Welton (drums) and Ida Nielsen (bass), Prince delivers sufficient guitar-hero histrionics to satisfy those who search in vain for them on Art Official Age.

Meaty, riff-driven numbers are to the fore but on Whitecaps and Stopthistrain the volume and pace are dialled back to allow Prince's bandmates space to step up to the mike.
