CD Reviews: Gerard Way

Once the reason why millions of teens raided their mothers' make-up boxes, Gerard Way now finds himself bandless, but free to wallow in his influences.

The ex-My Chemical Romance leader mines grunge, shoegaze's sonic collages and post-punk angularity for his debut solo album Hesitant Alien, which features all manner of crunching, jangly and spiky guitars, bringing to mind The Jesus and Mary Chain (Drugstore Perfume) and the glam rock sleaze of T-Rex (Get the Gang Together) in one of the year's more startling sonic reinventions.
