CD Reviews: Fall Out Boy

On their sixth studio effort, these punk-pop veterans (well, they have survived more than a decade) stretch the limits of their typically bombastic approach.

In short, American Beauty/American Psycho is a little overblown.

Take opening single Centuries: sampling Suzanne Vega's Tom's Diner could have been inspired, yet it just comes off as overwrought and clumsy.

In fact, the album's saving grace is its samples, from Mötley Crüe's Too Fast for Love to the quirky theme from TV show The Munsters.

At least they distract from the obvious.

Fall Out Boy. American Beauty/American Psycho. Universal.

Two and a half stars (out of five)
