CD reviews:

After six studio albums and a career stretching 15 years, it's a little strange that Murder By Death are not a little better known.

Perhaps their beguiling blend of gothic Americana is simply a little too esoteric.

Well, Big Dark Love could just change that.

Easily their most accessible album to date, their fondness for painting dark scenarios from a palette of multiple instruments is still intact.

But this time the songs sound more focused, and the production values accentuate singer Adam Curla's smoky baritone supplemented by Sarah Ballie's captivating cello.

It takes a while to seep in, but when it does, Big Dark Love should have you seeking out their back catalogue.
