CD reviews: Tame Impala

This third full-length outing from Tame Impala finds Kevin Parker taking a synth-led excursion through the vagaries of romantic love, deftly matching his ruminations with hand-in-glove sonic treatments.

Parker's falsetto glides through the purest set of pop songs he has delivered to date, from disco-style dance tracks to woozy ballads and stone-cold electro-funk, pausing only once for the pitch-shifted spoken-word sections of Past Life.

The move away from guitars won't suit all fans but this shimmering world of sweet synthetic sounds is none the poorer for the ascension of the machines.
