CD reviews: Led Zeppelin

Standing in the shadow of the sprawling Physical Graffiti, 1976's Presence remains vastly underrated despite containing two bona fide classics: the epic Achilles' Last Stand and the slow-burning Tea for One.

A pall hung heavy during recording, with Golden God Robert Plant confined to a wheelchair after a serious car accident, which accounts for the album's bleak mood: a mood lifted somewhat in this deluxe reissue with Jimmy Page's lush remastering and the curious cast-off 10 Ribs & All/Carrot Pod Pod (Pod), a deft piano-led instrumental.

Led Zeppelin. Presence (Deluxe Reissue.) Atlantic/Swan Song.

Four stars (out of five)
