CD review: The Great Unknown

After shifting 80 million units across the globe, what now for Matchbox 20 singer Rob Thomas as his third solo LP hovers into view?

If The Great Unknown is anything to go by, then more of the same would appear to be the answer.

While his emotionally overwrought power pop has sold well, there is no hint of an artistic left turn here: catchy lead single Trust You co-opts Maroon 5's swagger, and though every chorus sticks like glue, boxes are eventually (and earnestly) ticked in a blaze of overproduced - and ultimately, anonymous - glory.
