CD review: No No No

Indie outfit Beirut's fourth album, the follow up to 2011's excellent The Rip Tide, comes on the back of a few tribulations for frontman Zach Condon, namely being hospitalised in 2013 due to exhaustion from years of touring; oh, and he also got divorced.

Yet, from joyous opening single Gibraltar, driven by piano and congas, to the quaint pop chant of the title track, and the off kilter rhythmic punctuation of August Holland, Condon and bandmates Paul Collins and Nick Petree have produced nine pieces of silver.

Who would have thought such warm joy could have bottled over a New York winter?
