CD reviews: The Dead Weather

Even though Jack White is supposedly taking the back seat on the drum stool, he is still very much the Keith Moon of The Dead Weather.

That is less a comment on Moon's drumming and more to do with the way in which he frequently made his presence felt in The Who.

In the same way, White's vocal interplay with The Kills' Alison Mosshart is the glue that binds together all the furious riffing, yelps and howls of this (sort of) supergroup.

For all the pedigree, the album still sounds like a bunch of musicians revelling in the freedom to figure it out on the fly.
