The Click Property Management managing director features on the season finale of Renters on TV2 tonight, along with a student flat and an irresponsible tenant.
The show follows property managers handling headaches and conflicts on behalf of landlords.
Much of it was based in Auckland but Mrs Elliott, who runs Click with her husband, Andrew, was asked to be the show's only South Island property manager after producers read articles she had written for the Sunday Star Times.
A film crew followed her for three days, out of which came two seven-minute slots from two properties.
"She only got two slots on Renters because they were looking for more dirt," Mr Elliott said.
One of the slots showed how she handled the aftermath of an uncontrolled dog and thoughtless tenants.
The tenants had permission for one dog to be on the property, but Mrs Elliott found two, along with $8500 worth of damage.
The dogs had ripped up vinyl and scratched through wall boards; the washing machine had overflowed and the tenants removed the damaged carpet themselves; the fire-box door was broken; holes were smashed in doors; and the formica bench top was burnt.
The tenants were subsequently evicted and she returned to the property with the show for a reinspection.
"They were young. They have no common sense and no sense of responsibility," she said.
While the couple said only about 2% of their total portfolio were bad tenants, Mrs Elliott said the most important thing was "how you react and manage the situation".
"We are not property managers, we are people managers."
