Embattled TV show Campbell Live has thanked viewers for "sticking with us" after last night's episode scored a big ratings rise.

The John Campbell-hosted current affairs show -- currently under "review" by management at TV3 -- scored 333,960 viewers last night, making it the night's third-highest rating show behind The X Factor and 3 News.

The figures were posted to the show's twitter account today, with the message: "Thanks for sticking with us New Zealand. See you tonight!".

They're vastly improved ratings for Campbell Live, with Throng.co.nz reporting Campbell Live's average viewership last week was 245,373 - a 42% increase on the previous week.

It's a sharp rise in viewer numbers for the show which could be pinned on news last week that Campbell Live was under review and faced the axe.

Reported suggestions for replacements include a homegrown soap or a Jono and Ben-style entertainment show.

During it's 10-year anniversary week at the end of March, some episodes slumped to viewerships as low as 116,040 and 118,590.

While the turnaround is good news for those who signed petitions and tweeted their support under the "Save Campbell Live" hashtag, the show still has some way to go to threaten TV One's Seven Sharp, which had 504,790 viewers last night and continues to dominate the current affairs slot at 7pm.
