New Zealand's popular folk parody duo Flight of the
Conchords will not shoot a third season of their US-made
television show.
In a statement on the band's website, Bret McKenzie, Jemaine
Clement and their collaborator James Bobin confirmed rumours
they would not be returning for a third season.
"We've noticed the less we say about the future of the show,
the more people want to talk about it, so in an effort to
reverse this trend we are today announcing that we won't be
returning for a 3rd season," the statement said.
"We're very proud of the two seasons we made and we like the
way the show ended. We'd like to thank everyone who helped
make the show and also everyone who watched it. While the
characters Bret and Jemaine will no longer be around, the
real Bret and Jemaine will continue to exist."
The show, which features Clement and MacKenzie as two
bumbling, down-and-out New Zealand musicians struggling to
make it as a novelty folk band in New York, first aired on
American cable network HBO in 2007, and screened in New
Zealand on Prime.
It returned earlier this year for a second season.
The show was nominated for five Emmy Awards this year and
four in 2008, but missed out on grabbing any statuettes each
time.
