One of the organisers of the Lake Hayes A&P Show
beer-brewing competition, accused of making it "men only",
has invited the woman turned away from the event to give him
a call.
The Milford Mountain Classic will be a regular on the cycling
calendar after this week's inaugural race attracted elite and
recreational riders from around the country.
Last year's Gibbston Valley Winery concert attracted 15,000
people and next month's concert is on target to do the same,
which has organisers already promising to make it an annual
event.
Construction will begin on a retreat and meditation centre
near Glenorchy at the end of the month, after consent was
granted from the Overseas Investment Office and Lakes
Environmental.
The Glenorchy Races 50th anniversary meeting on Saturday was
a "terrific" success and has already raised $23,000 for
community projects for what is going to be a big year for the
tiny town.
Auckland came in as defending champion and will again next
year, but sevens coach Wayne Pivac will not be surprised if
his players miss out on national selection.
Most of the 400 competitors in yesterday's inaugural Race The
Train event knew they would never beat the Kingston Flyer
over a 12km journey from Fairlight to Kingston.
